New from

Recently a few of you have been asking about mesh covers for 1:12 velocity stacks. Well, you will be happy to know I now have them in production.

The problems I encountered with (individual) mesh covers is they all come pressed in a square and it is up to the modeler to trim it. All of you that have tried this know how much of a pain it is and how many you destroy on the way to the finish.
  Instructions

To overcome this I manufactured a press that forms the individual cover and trims it to the correct diameter in one motion. These will fit "RB Motion" stacks as well as the Tamiya 1:12 stacks in the kits with the DFV engine.

Click the image for a larger view. You can see the nice shape that they are formed in. They are also NOT a complete Hemisphere, it is approx 1/3 of a sphere. (That is some modeling clay I used to show the parts.)

Every minute I have spare (Not Many), I punch out a few of the covers. However, I have got to come up with packaging to protect the covers as they are a woven 304 stainless steel mesh 42 x 42, 0.0055" thick.

I have produced a "Jig" to assist in applying the covers to the stacks, so they maintain their shape. The jig acts as the packing method as well, you will be required to sand down the top of the jig at, at least, one of the indents, so that when you place a cover in it, it protrudes slightly above the resin jig. When you receive them there will be a piece of "scotch tape" holding them into the jig. Be careful when removing the tape not to loose any of the covers

You will place the mesh cover in the "indented" jig. The bottom edges of the cover should be just protrude a little. Then apply some CA Thick or extra thick setting glue (10 to 25seconds) to the edge of your velocity stack and carefully position it onto the cover and lift it out of the jig immediately. "PRESTO" perfectly positioned mesh on the velocity stack. I suggest sanding a small taper or bevel on the plastic kit parts, as that will allow a better fit.  You can see the fit I'm talking about on the kit piece on the left.

The price for a set of 8 covers including the jig is $12.00. (Pre-order by Feb 28th and get them for $10.00) Part # AZMP-12002. I have enough material to produce around 100 sets at the moment. I only produce approx. 3 sets per day, (that is what I did on the 17th anyway, told you there were not many spare minutes.) with everything else that I have to do. ;)

If you would like some of these please send an email to orders@macsmodeling.com with AZMP12002 in the subject line and tell me how many you want in the body of the email.

And before you ask............Yes, I will be producing them in 1:20 scale using a 66 x 66 stainless steel mesh that is 0.004" thick. Not this month though. I do have the mesh, I have to produce the punch set for them.
