The Gripe of the Week

10/5/09

The email account for comments  dailygripe@macsmodeling.com especially for anyone to send their "Gripe" to me, and I will put it up along with your name, unless you want to be anonymous. I have been asked to make a place for responses, so I'm going to add them at the bottom of gripes.

Although the site is limited to F1 models the "Weekly Gripe" is open to everything in the World.

This is about MotoGP:

The introduction of Moto 2 to replace the 250cc Class

WTF is going on! I know only too well there is a financial crisis around the world. But eliminating the 125 and 250cc classes from racing, I do kind of understand. But it seems based on the American market rather than the rest of the world.

Two strokes are not sold in the USA and have not been for some time. So I do understand some of the idea to change to 4 strokes. (It used to be a mix of 4 strokes and 2 strokes.) But a one engine suppliers, same tires..........it will be worse than "Club Racing". Maybe it will be good for Club racing.

There will be no manufacturer's represented, Derby, Aprillia, Yamaha, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, Honda, Gillera etc I guess its is the same as GP2 in open wheel racing..............do I watch that? No! Am I likely to watch Moto2? Only to the same point as I did with GP2..............the first race.

Is it going to save the big companies that much money! They will still have to travel the globe to race in MotoGP and now, bear the total cost of that travel, whereas now, I'm sure some of that cost is split between the 125 and 250 works teams.

The idea of "Race on Sunday, Buy on Monday" is out the window. Are the manufacturers that affected by the economy, that they are happy about this situation.

Yes I understand that MotoGP the 125 and 250 classes are/were prototype racers, so they were/are never made for the road, but there were/are 125 and 250cc road bikes produced by the manufacturers.

I also know, that is what Superbike and Supersport bike is about; Racing upgraded versions of what you can buy for the road. This used to be called Production Bike racing............and all the parts were available if you wanted to turn your road bike into a road going racing machine. It was great!

I bought a Honda 125 Benly SS because of Honda's 125cc racing bikes. That was in the 60's and 4 strokes were racing then. It would keep up with, and sometimes do better than, the 350's and 500's of the day.......except for the "Gold Star's" ;)

Why don't they race 4 stroke 250's in place of the 2 strokes and keep the manufacturers in the Sport. After all, not everyone is going to go out and buy a 1,000cc MotoGP "Look alike" road bike......

So what is the Race weekend going to be like now in 2010?!? See how the F1 weekend has changed the last few years............there is so much spare time.............nothing on track...............but ticket prices are the same or much higher.

As I see it; the stands will be empty until the MotoGP race and then empty just as quickly, television will have to be the main source of income. Tracks will not be able to afford having the races, and it may have to become a support to F1 races or something like that.

Both series have been adding Concerts at the tracks to try and attract people, that's great, but it is becoming more of a circus/spectacle than a sporting event. Are we all going to live in a NASCAR world?!?!

If you disagree, or agree with the above I would love to hear your comments at dailygripe@macsmodeling.com
